Amy Macdonald a 37– years- old is a Scottish singer, guitarist, and Songwriter who came into the limelight in 2007 with her debut album, This is the life( 2007). Also the wife of retired Scottish footballer, Ricky Foster, she is also known for her songs like Mr. Rock and roll, and Don’t tell me it is over. 

Amy Elizabeth Macdonald was born on August 25, 1987, in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire. At the age of 4, she began singing at home and her parents encouraged her.

At Age 13, her father took her for live shows and got inspired by Travis T, a band that performed live at a Park Festival in 2000, where she had a song by Travis, Turn. Since then, she picked interest in playing the guitar and wanted to play the song herself. Macdonald became a self-taught musician who made her way to a career.

1. The singer, Amy Macdonald Started in Glasgow

Glasgow is a venture for live music that host gigs in bars to shows in parks. Macdonald, at 14, started performing in coffee houses and pubs around Glasgow doing little gigs.

According to her, Glasgow was the only place she knew that had amazing gigs and was her world. Then, it was Strange for her to go to other places for her music. She kept pushing her career through the platform till she got signed to a record label.

2. A Look At Her Breakthrough 

The breakthrough of Amy Macdonald as a singer took shape when she sent her demo to NME, a new production company then that advertised for songwriters. She was picked by Pete Wilkinson and Sarah Erasmus. They were blown away by her songwriting and singing abilities when she played to them.

Macdonald spent about 8- 9 months recording demos with Wilkison at his home studio with an intention of getting a record deal for her. In 2006, she got a contract deal with Vertigo.

That year, she released her debut album, This is the Life and it sold over three million copies and topped the music charts in four countries including the U.K, and got to No. 92 0n the US Billboard. The album was a huge success that made her renowned.

Amy Mcdonald is married to a 39 Scottish football star, Richard Foster who played with Rangers Fc and is playing for Saint Johnstone as a multi-purpose midfielder. The couple has been married for 7 years now.

They began dating in 2014, which led to an engagement on New year’s day, 2016. At that time,  Amy disclosed that she was engaged to Richard Foster.

The couple was not in a rush to get married, they waited two years after before getting married in May 2018 at  Luxury Wynn hotel, Las Vegas. Their honeymoon was a road trip across the U. S  taking Yosemite National Park.

The Scottish singer has a stepchild from her marriage with Richard Foster. Richard began dating Amy when his son was only 3. Oliver Foster was born on March 6, 2011, to his father by an unnamed woman. The child who looks like his father is currently schooling though.

  • 2018, she won Forth Radio Awards under the category The Forth International Music Icon Award.

In 2009, she got 5 nominations, 3 from Echo awards under the category of Single for the Year, Best International Female, and won Best New International Comer. From NRJ Music Awards, she was nominated for International Album of The Year and International Revolution of the Year.

Amy’s genres of music are folk rock, indie pop, and soft rock. Right from childhood, she had always loved pop and rock music. She listened to Michael Jackson and the band Travis. Travis had always been one of her strongest inspirations for music for her.

Folk Music according to her,  is a way of telling stories through her songs which she does all the time, and it’s not all about the acoustic guitar but the story behind the song which adds value to her songs.

7. She Appeared In A T.v Series

The T. V  series Still Game is a Scottish Sitcom, that was created by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill and produced by The Comedy Unit with BBC Scotland. Macdonald made a guest appearance in the final series alongside Midge Ure who is also a singer.

8. The Guitarist, Is  A lover Of Fast Cars 

The 37–years-old is a lover of automobiles and has bought about 30 cars since her driving test at 17 which she has given many of them out. Some of the cars she owned since the test include a Nissan GT-R,  a Mini cooper, a Bently  Continental, a Ferrari 458 Italia; and a Bentley V8 Bentayga.

During her wedding, she had to sell her Ferrari 488 GTB, which had a speed of 205 mph. She said it was one of the hardest things to do but she had another yellow Ferrari Speciale which she left because it was the last they made without a turbo.

Her love for cars is remarkable and she doesn’t keep her cars for long. She sees them as investments over time.

9. Arnold, Her Pet, Inspired Her 

While growing up, Amy and her sister wished for a dog as a Christmas gift from Santa and they got their gift on Christmas morning. They named the dog Jackson, after the ‘King of Pop’ himself but her father suggested Schwarzenegger, and quickly they named him Arnold.

Arnold was one of the greatest inspirations in her career, she said, she learned a lot from him; absolute unconditional love and loyalty. He made her smile and kept her going. Unfortunately, Arnold passed in 2020 and she was heartbroken over his loss but consoled he was a fighter till the end. A mini shrine was made in his honor with so many pictures of him in her house.
