The Chucky movies is an American horror franchise that has gained cult a followering among fans for its blend of horror and comedy. Many years since it began with Child’s Play in 1988, six more films have been released in the line with a 2019 remake of the first film in the franchise.
In 2018, it was announced that a TV series will start under the Chucky franchise in 2020. Ahead of the start of the series, we decide to look at the best films in the line thus far.
All Chucky Movies Ranked
1. Child’s Play 2 – Best of Chucky Movies
This movie was released in 1990 after Child’s Play which is in itself, another great film. However, the first film only set up the rules inherent in Chucky movies set up. It was Child’s Play 2 that brought those rules into realization by fully utilizing them.
The storyline is weird, funny and twisted enough- filled with some very rare moments that the Chucky franchise has not been able to meet again. This makes the movie scarier. Child’s play 2 has been able to effectively fit humor and horror together, something that the next films in the franchise have found hard to achieve.

2. Child’s Play
This movie was released in 1988. Chucky was brought back to life when he transported his soul into a good guy doll. This movie is the first film that started the franchise and brought Chucky into existence.
More so, it set all the ground rules that other subsequent sequels thrived on. Although, at this point, the film hasn’t yet realized its full potential.
However, the storyline is far more serious, taking nothing for granted. Chucky is tough and murderous killing anything that stands on his way.
3. Curse of Chucky
This movie was released in 2013. After the near-failure that characterized the Seed of Chucky, the franchise thought it wise to restrategize and change. Bride of Chucky and Seed of Chucky was a complete comedy, the fans needed more horrifying storylines from the franchise.
Director Mancini said “it’s what the fans have been saying they wanted and after the last two I think we mined the comedic stuff as much as we could, do now…But it was time to go back to his roots.” The storyline and setting were changed where we saw Chucky become a mysterious murderer in a dark house.
4. Bride of Chucky
This movie was released in 1998. Chucky’s girlfriend when he was still human, Tiffany, picked up his pieces and brought him back to life using the book of voodoo for dummies. There was this unsatisfiable feeling at the end of Child’s play 3 that was fixed here. Ronny Yu- a Hong Kong filmmaker polished the script by giving Chucky a whole new feeling.
Tiffany would later be killed by Chucky following an argument and then he would reincarnate her as a doll and his bride. Together, they wreak havoc leaving countless bodies of teens in their wake. The movie also makes use of jokes- and not just horror. Chucky became a comical anti-hero.

5. Cult of Chucky
This movie was released in 2017. Being the most recent film in the franchise, it will definitely pain fans to see it ranked this low.
The movie was supposed to focus more on Alex Vincent’s (Andy) return who was Chucky’s friend in Child’s Play 1 and 2, but his character was under-Utilized. He appears only to set the ground running for a new sequel.
However, despite the fact that it ranked this low, the inclusion of multiple Chuckys helped it to gain a little bit of love from the fans. The first half of the film is amazing while the second is rather not great.
6. Child’s Play 3
This movie was released in 1991. It wasn’t up to a year after Child’s Play 2 was released that this movie came out. They were trying to rush the production all in a bit to cash- in on the rising popularity of Chucky. In the end, the film ended up to be a disappointment.
It features a teenager, Andy (Justine Whalin) who is thrown off in a military school and subsequently, Chucky made his way to the military campus, after his former owner, Andy.
The idea of putting Chucky in a tight grip military background wasn’t bad after all, but it ends there. All you get to see is Chucky vs the army all the time. This can be so boring as there is nothing more to offer.

7. Seed of Chucky – Worst of Chucky Movies?
This movie was released in 2004. It is not a surprise that this movie is ranked last here. Well, it is viewed as the silliest film in the series. This is because it neglected and ignored the central theme of the franchise which is horror or better still a mixture of both comedy and horror.
Instead, it threw all its weight on comedy. Even the Bride of Chucky was able to handle and manage comedy and horror perfectly than this. We’ll see in the movie how Glen another doll- and a son to Chucky and Tiffany bring them back to life only to dismember Chucky to death at the end.
