Sam Kuffel, a local meteorologist who worked for Milwaukee’s CBS affiliate, has been let go from her job.
The weather reporter was dismissed from her job after posting criticism on social media in which she labeled Elon Musk a “Nazi” in response to his controversial arm gesture at a pro-Trump rally.
Sam Kuffel, a weather reporter for CBS 58, was terminated by the station just a day after posting two critical items about Musk on her Instagram page.
In one of the posts, Sam Kuffel made a comment on an image of Elon Musk standing at the podium, writing: “Dude Nazi saluted twice. TWICE. During the inauguration.”
She then went on to add, “You f–k with this and this man, I don’t f–k with you. Full stop.”
After this, Sam Kuffel we ahead to post a GIF from the hit TV show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” along with the caption: “Screw that old b—h. He’s a Nazi.”
Shortly after she made the comments online, Sam Kuffel was fired from her job.
In a memo that was obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, CBS 58 news director Jessie Garcia wrote to staffers to communicate the news of Kuffel’s termination.
He wrote: “Meteorologist Sam Kuffel is no longer employed at CBS58. A search for a replacement is underway.”
A spokesperson for Weigel Broadcasting Co., the owner of the station, confirmed the dismissal in an emailed statement to the Journal Sentinel on Wednesday.
Dan O’Donnell, a conservative radio host, noticed Kuffel’s critical post about Musk on Tuesday and shared it on X, writing: “CBS 58 meteorologist Sam Kuffel made a pair of vulgar Instagram posts while spreading the false claim that Elon Musk gave a Nazi salute during yesterday’s Presidential Inauguration.”
O’Donnell further noted that Musk clarified his gesture by saying, “My heart goes out to you.”
Sam Kuffel, who has been working at local stations in Wisconsin since graduating college in 2016, made headlines last fall after accusing Fox Sports NFL sideline reporter Erin Andrews of fabricating a weather alert during a Packers-Lions game in Green Bay.
In a since-deleted post on X, she wrote: “Begging Erin Andrews to stop making up weather alerts,” adding that “stuff like this makes me irrationally angry.”
Andrews later reached out to the meteorologist on X, writing, “Hey Sam! Just saw the story about your tweet. Let me know the best way to touch base. I wanted to share where Fox security (working the game) and I got our Weather Alert for the Packers game! Thanks!!”
Recall that Elon Musk has since defended the one-armed gesture he gave during President Trump’s inauguration, dismissing accusations from left-wing critics that it was a Nazi salute, saying they “need better dirty tricks.”
Earlier, the billionaire tech mogul sparked controversy on social media after placing his right hand over his heart and then extending his arm into the air while thanking Trump’s supporters on Monday, ahead of the Inauguration Day parade.
