Nicholas Godejohn, the ex-boyfriend of Gypsy Rose Blanchard was found guilty of first-degree murder in 2018 after stabbing her mother Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard. Since the judgments were passed, his story has continued to drive curiosity about his whereabouts. This is likely because his girlfriend who talked him into killing her mother has been walking freely after her role in the murder. She is also married to Saint Charles Louisiana, and they are building a family together.

Nicholas Godejohn is Still Behind Bars and will be there for Life
At the moment, Nicholas Godejohn is serving a life sentence with no possibility of parole at the Potosi Correctional Center in Missouri. The Wisconsin-born was arrested in 2015 and found guilty of first-degree murder in 2015 after stabbing Claudine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, the mother of his then-girlfriend, Gypsy Rose. He reportedly did this in an attempt to free her from the abuse she was subjected to for several years of her life.
According to the story, his then-girlfriend Gypsy had been mentally and physically abused by her mother throughout her life. She narrated that she was placed in a wheelchair despite being able to walk and also lived on medications as she was linked to several diseases such as muscular dystrophy and leukemia. In addition to this, she said her mother had convinced many close friends and family members to believe that was was sick after shaving her hair.
After Nicholas got to know about these mistreatments, he took the law into his own hands and ended the life of Dee Dee in 2015, the same year he was privileged to meet his girlfriend in person. Further reports say that it was Gypsy who invited and talked him into traveling from Wisconsin to Missouri to kill her mother following subsequent arguments and admitted to this in court saying “I wanted to be free of her hold on me,”.
On the night of the incident, she recalled how she had put her mother to bed after they both did their manicures. It was while she was asleep that Nicholas stabbed her and she just watched from the bathroom she was hiding. The pair later engaged in sex after this and also reportedly stole $4000 from her. They checked into a Days Inn Springfield that night and after a few days, they fled to Nicholas’s family in Wisconsin by bus.
However, while Nicholas got a life sentence, his then-girlfriend Gypsy was convicted of second-degree murder and was given a 10-year sentence for her role in the killing of her mother. She served for eight years and was granted parole in September 2023. Three months later, The 33 years old was released from Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center.
It was also proven in court that Gypsy’s mother had Munchausen syndrome by proxy. It was this was a psychological disorder that made her make up fake symptoms or cause real symptoms to make the person they are caring for appear ill.

Nicholas Godejohn and Gypsy Rose Blanchard First Crossed Paths in 2012 Via a Dating Site
Even though 2015 was the year Nicholas and Gypsy had their first in-person meeting, the pair had been together before then. They first met in October 2012 through a dating site for Christian singles and they remained in touch for 3 years via text messages. The pair discussed everything from building a family together to the number of kids they want and even the names they will bear. Their hundreds of messages were read aloud and displayed on a TV screen for the jurors.
In 2019 when he appeared on the Oxgygen special Gypsy Rose & Nick: A Love to Kill, he said that from their first meeting on the dating site, he knew they were soulmates. He later added that the few days he spent with her physically were the best days of his life describing them as the most intense, magical, and awe-inspiring days of his life.
He also made justifications for the murder and said it was necessary for their future together. This was in addition to the truth that he wanted to Gypsy to experience freedom. He later said in a 2019 Oxygen documentary that he regret killing Dee Dee. He even shared that the best option would have been to run away with her instead.
The Pair Broke Up Following the Murder Case
The relationship between Nicholas and Gypsy soon deteriorated following the murder of her mother Dee Dee. Even though it seemed like they had a great relationship, one of Gypsy’s friends revealed that their relationship was born out of desperation and was unhealthy.
Gypsy’s parole condition was that they shouldn’t have any contact which further set them apart.
In 2019, a year after being charged, she got engaged to Ken, a man whom her family friend Fancy Macelli confirmed that they shared mutual love and respect. The pair remained together for a while which saw them break up but later reconciled and continued with plans of getting married. Unfortunately, they were only together until August 2022.
In prison, Gypsy started a new relationship with Saint Charles Louisiana and they were together for a while before tying the knot in 2022 while in prison. Despite this, Nicholas has maintained that she remained his soulmate and he will always have feelings for her.
Nicholas Attempted to overturn his Conviction
Although Gypsy admitted to being responsible for putting him behind bars for the rest of his life, she also noted that he had a choice and is paying for his decision. Nicholas later shared on his sentencing hearing in February 2019 that “he was blindly in love” with Gypsy and according to his attorney, it was this love that manipulated Nicholas to kill her mother.
In August 2022, he was represented by a different attorney who argued that his previous attorneys failed to provide adequate defense during his trial. He asked them to set his conviction aside and ordered a new trial. Unfortunately, the Greene County judge denied his request in March 2023.
