Martin Frizell, Fiona Phillips’ husband, has remained by her side since she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 61, in 2022. She was diagnosed after suffering from brain fog and anxiety for several months. Frizell, the This Morning editor, has been married to Fiona since 1997, and the couple has two sons, Nathaniel and Mackenzie.
Because the disease is known to have ravaged the Daily Columnist’s family, Fiona Phillips and her adoring husband had blood tests to check if their two children would inherit the disease, but the findings were luckily negative.
Meet Fiona Phillips’s Husband, Martin Frizell
Martin Frizell is best known as a TV editor and producer. He is the editor of This Morning. He previously produced Loose Women and GMTV.
The pair met when Fiona was working at GMTV where Martin was chief correspondent. After four weeks of dating, Martin proposed to her. However, the columnist had already made up her mind never to get married. That changed after she realized Martin was deeply in love with her.
Fiona and Martin married in Las Vegas in May 1997 and have been together for about 27 years now.
In July 2023, Martin’s wife revealed she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She also added it was the same disease that killed her father, mother, uncle, and granddad and now when she thought hers will come in her 80s, she was diagnosed with it when she was only 61. Reports say the presenter is now undergoing trials for a new revolutionary drug that scientists believe could help by stalling the illness and even reversing it.
In the wake of the news of Fiona’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, her husband has revealed how worried he is. He also explained in an interview with The Mirror how his wife started experiencing crippling anxiety and brain fog.

The couple have two sons
Fiona Phillips and Martin Frizell have two sons, Nathaniel (25) and Mackenzie (23).
With the news of her diagnosis, Phillips and her husband revealed they agreed to let their sons know about it. They also took blood tests of the boys to see if they would inherit it since it runs in the family. Nathaniel and Mackenzie’s maternal great-grandparents, maternal grandparents, and maternal uncle were crippled by the disease. It was an enormous relief for the celebrity couple when the results came back negative.
Their father said:
When the results came back as negative it was a huge moment – such an enormous sense of relief. There’s no Alzheimer’s on my side of the family and thank goodness it seems the boys have not inherited from Fiona’s side of the family
Furthermore, their mother was diagnosed with it in 2022, but she opted to keep it hidden from them for months since she didn’t want it to alter how they treated her. They only recently learned of their mother’s sickness, but they may have seen some changes in her.
Their mother may have hope for the future because she is presently participating in clinical studies at University College Hospital in London, which seek to transform future medical treatment.
