Before her first marriage, the R&B singer dated saxophonist Raymond Hill and after Ike, she dated James Ralston, and allegedly dated David Bowie, Mick Jagger, and Euge Groove.
Tina Turner finally found love again and settled with Erwin whom she dated for 27 years before they married.
Tina Turner’s First Husband was Ike Turner
When they initially met, they had a brother-and-sister type of relationship but eventually, things began to spice up between them. Tina and Ike met in 1957 and were friends for 3 years.
Their relationship started as an affair as Ike was dating Lorraine Taylor at the time. Their affair started when Tina was scared about another musician who had threatened her and so went to sleep in Ike Turner’s room. That was the first time they had s*x and they secretly began dating.
The couple got married in 1962 in Tijuana and a year later, he bought a house for them at the View Park area. Tina and her husband lived with their 4 children. There were her 2 sons; Craig whom she had from a previous relationship, and Ronnie whom she had with Ike. They also lived with her husband’s 2 sons, Ike Jr. Turner and Michael Turner.
Ike and Turner were together for 16 years, married for 14 and the last 2 years were spent separated and in divorce. The couple’s divorce was finalized in 1978 after Tina filed for it citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.
Tina was in an abusive relationship with her first husband and this was what inspired her to leave Ike Turner. The first time he hit her was when she wanted to end their affair but the singer, Ike wasn’t having it. She also didn’t leave because she had grown to care deeply for him at the time.
Eventually, the ‘Queen of Rock and Roll’ couldn’t stand the abuse and left her ex-husband on July 1, 1976. 26 days later, she filed for a divorce from him and demanded alimony, child support, and custody of her sons.
By March 29, 1978, the divorce was official and Tina never looked back. She detailed her ordeal in the hands of her first husband and concluded that she was better off without him. She also stated that Ike Turner wasn’t one who could be forgiven easily.
At the end of the marriage, Ike Turner revealed that he was never really married to Rock and Roll singer. He admitted that he was married to someone else at the time and so was never officially married to Tina. However, they were in a common-law marriage and this meant they had to go through the normal divorce process.
