Tommy Lefroy Members are Tessa Mouzourakis and Wynter Bethel, who are from Vancouver and Michigan respectively. The international indie pop musical duo is based in London but they first started in Nashville in 2017. The pair name the group Tommy Lefroy after an Irish politician, Thomas Langlois Lefroy who is thought to be the inspiration for the character of Mr. Darcy in Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice.
Known for being a Juno Award nominee for Breakthrough Group of the Year 2023, the pop duo captures the experience of growing up in nuance and pain in their lyrics. Over the years, the pair have bonded over their love of literature and well-crafted lyricism.

1. Tessa Mouzourakis
Tessa Mouzourakis is a singer-songwriter originally from Vancouver, BC. She has been writing songs since the tender age of eight and so far she has written more than fifty songs.
Besides writing, she has equally performed at several festivals all over British Columbia as well as in the United States. As a solo artist, she released a couple of singles and shared them on iTunes. The Sarah McLachlan School of Music graduate plays quite a number of instruments also. She plays guitar, piano, mandolin, and ukulele.
In addition to all that, her LinkedIn profile states that she’s a creative content and social media coordinator. It also says that she attended Kitsilano Secondary School from 2010 to 2015 and The University of British Columbia where she majored in History, and minored in creative writing from 2015 to 2018.
Before she paired up with Wynter, Tessa used to run social media accounts, create content, and design graphics for the history department at the University of British Columbia.
Having achieved the career milestone of recording her first EP, TESSA, the singer has even been a featured speaker at TEDxKids at BC.
Prior to releasing her first single, Tessa was able to raise about $5,000 through a GoFundMe campaign and a few coins from grants for artists.
She recorded her first EP at Monarch Studios, one of the most acclaimed recording studios founded in 2012 by Tom Dobrzanski. Her manager at that time was Hawson, someone she met when she was 13 at Sarah McLachlan School of Music.
Since then, Tessa and Hawson have worked together on several projects, especially on a manager-client basis.

Writer Wynter Bethel grew up in Northern Michigan. Reports say she started writing stories when she could read. During the early years of her solo career, she collaborated with several producers who have worked with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Melanie Martinez.
Her works have gained her recognition worldwide and she even got an invite to attend the international Mustaine Writer’s Retreat in Greece. Also, she was featured in several songwriter showcases hosted by SESAC, ASCAP, and also Belmont University.
Wynter graduated Magna cum laude from Belmont University with a BBA in Music Business in 2017.
How did the pop duo meet?
Apparently, the Tommy Lefroy band members first met in Nashville, Tennessee in 2017 when they were both working as professional songwriters. They officially started working together in 2018 shortly after Bethel got to see Mouzourakis’s online cover of boygenius’s Ketchum ID on Instagram stories and jokingly asked if they could start a band.
That conversation on social media led to the band’s self-produced debut EP Flight Risk. It was recorded during lockdown over FaceTime and at that time, Wynter was in LA while Tessa was in London.
Having collaborated on songwriting and record production, the Tommy Lefroy duo began releasing singles in 2021. Their single The Cause soon became popular on TitTok. After signing to Pheromone Recordings in 2022, the band released the non-album single Dog Eat Dog as their first single for the label.
The band got its name from Jane Austen’s love interest
According to the duo, they named their group after the 19th-century judge and politician Thomas Langlois Lefroy, the character is said to be the infamous real-life Mr. Dacry who reportedly broke author Jane Austen’s heart. As huge fans of the author, the duo felt a kind of kinship with Austen, who was the author of many great love stories during an era that was dubbed a “man’s world”. It is believed that Austen’s works gave a voice to the experiences of women since she usually wrote strong female characters in her stories.
