John Pyper Ferguson was born to Canadian Miracle Mile runner Richard Ferguson and Kathleen McNamee, an Olympic swimmer on February 27, 1964, in Mordialloc, Australia. Shortly after he was born, his family moved to Vancouver where he would attend Handsworth Secondary School.
The actor enrolled at the University of Alberta where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance and graduated with distinction.
