The Drag Queen Was Born George Ward
Popular by the stage name Cherry Valentine, his birth name is George Ward. He was born on 30 November 1993 in Darlington, County Durham. It was also there that he was raised and had his elementary education.
Information about George’s parents and siblings is limited. What we garnered is that his dad was a mechanic and he was raised in a very strict community that was mostly called the Romany or traveler’s community.
Cherry Valentine is a university graduate who qualified as a mental health nurse in 2015 and was practicing until his death.
He Identifies as Gender-Fluid
As earlier hinted, Cherry grew up in a very strict community that frowned at drag queens so he reportedly lived in the shadows. He once revealed that the Romany community mounted a lot of pressure on young people to get married, build a family, and get a job. Consequently, he had to lie about having girlfriends.
Even though Cherry’s mental health and confidence were dashed by what he termed old fashion views, he still found a way to live gender-fluid after college. Cherry in an interview stated that he wrote a letter to his parents revealing his identity and ran from home for over a week. On his return, his parent had a talk with him about his sexuality and since then no one spoke about it.
According to him, gender doesn’t exist and we are just who we think we are. He started performing as a drag queen in 2018 and in 2020 he joined the second series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK as one of the 12 contestants. He competed all along until he was eliminated in a lip sync challenge.

Although George’s unfortunate passing crippled some of his plans, he was able to join up with the BBC to produce a documentary named ‘Cherry Valentine: Gypsy Queen and Proud’. The documentary focused on his early life in Darlington, County- a place known to many as the traveler’s home.
