Ted Jorgensen apparently became famous by being the biological father of a famous person. While his name does not ring a bell, his relationship as the father of Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, and the 2nd richest man in the world is quite interesting. 1. Early Life and Background of Ted Jorgensen
Tedd was born on the 10th of October 1944 in Chicago. Not much is known about his family life but sources revealed he had a brother called Gordon Jorgensen and he has his ancestry from Denmark. As a teenager, he was much involved with unicycling and this was what probably moved him to Alburquerque, New Mexico where he married and fathered his later-to-be billionaire son Jeff at the age of 19. His wife Jacklyn was still a 17-year-old high school student then. Jorgenson later moved to Glendale, Arizona where he remained a businessman till his last days on earth.
2. Jorgensen was a Bike Shop Owner
Ted used to be an owner of a small bike repair shop in Glendale, Arizona. His involvement with bikes since his teenage years made him a pro in the business even though we will not be saying much of this if he remained closely associated with father Jeff Bozos.
Jorgensen also lived in a modest middle-class house in Phoenix, something far less compared to his son’s $165 million dollars worth of mansion in California.
3. He Lost Custody of Jefferey Bezos After Divorcing Jacklyn
Jorgensen became a drunk and a bicker shortly after his teenage marriage with his wife Jacklyn in 1963. His repugnant attitude broke his home and made him lose custody of Jeffery to Jacklyn in 1965, just one year after the Amazon boss was born and two years after his marriage.
Jacklyn asked her ex-husband to stay away from her and never come close to their child. Ted obliged her request and believed that it was probably going to be the best thing for their son. He later confirmed that the decision to let his family go was a big mistake he regrets.
4. Ted’s 2nd Marriage Was Successful
After Ted and his wife parted ways in 1965, he moved on to marry a woman called Linda some years later. His marriage to Linda became very successful and the duo was able to expand their family with 4 children; Mike, Lee Darin, and Todd who also bore Ted a good number of grandchildren. Linda and Ted’s marriage stayed uninterrupted for about 4 decades.
5. Tedd’s Ex-Wife Encounted Several Challenges While Raising their Son
Jacklyn was was still an inexperienced teenage high school mother who was to face heartbreak just a year after she gave birth to her first child. Raising Jefferey did not become easy for her at all as she had to struggle to attend night school while bringing him along as a baby; in fact, she almost got kicked out but for the intervention of her father-in-law. This struggle continued until 1968 when she met and married Mike Bezos, a Cuban Immigrant, and engineer who embraced Jacklyn and her child.
6. His Son Was Adopted by Micheal Bezos
Michael Bezos later assumed the paternal responsibilities of Jeff and raised him as his own son after marrying Jacklyn – a decision he will so much come to be grateful for. 7. Ted Jorgensen got to Know About His Son Through a Biographer
Jorgensen had spent a good number of his years not knowing where his son was or what exactly he was doing. Things changed when a biographer by the name of Brad Stone broke the news to him. Brad was at that time writing a book called The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and Amazon
Ted learned at the instant that his son is not just alive, but is as well a multi-billion dollar businessman and founder of the e-commerce outfit called Amazon; a situation Ted was not even aware of. Jorgensen and his 2nd wife were not been able to contact Jeff despite making several attempts.
8. He Never Set Eyes Again on Jeffery Until He Died
Ted died on 16th March 2015 at the age of 71 having battled emphysema, a lung condition that causes shortness of breath. He earnestly looked forward to setting his eyes on his son again, to tell him he is proud of all his accomplishments and not really to demand anything from him as people may think.
