The actress was born on May 9, 1972, in Napier, New Zealand to her parents, Mr.& Mrs. Gary Plowman. She was raised in Hongkong before she later moved to Britain for her studies.
She attended Bradbury Junior School and South Island School. She later furthered her education at Samuel Marsden Collegiate School Wellington between 1982 and 1989. Upon leaving the girl’s composite school, she enrolled at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and also Lecoq School in Paris.

The actress and her husband attended the same drama school but were on different courses so they didn’t really know each other.
After both attending the academy in 1991, Plowman and her husband bumped into each other at a voice-over audition in New York a few years later. While she did not recognize him, he did. While at the audition, the two promised each other dinner if the other was called back.
The lovebirds dated for some time before Toby wrote to Anna’s father, Gary to ask for her hand in marriage. While they were on vacation in Venice, Toby proposed to Anna, and of course, she said yes!
On 15 September 2001, the couple tied the knot at Farm Street Catholic church in Central London. The newlyweds decided to move to Hollywood after they got married but later returned back to England again.

Toby Stephens is the younger son of actors Dame Maggie Smith and Sir Robert Stephens. His parents were both famous English actors.

Anna-Louise Plowman Started Her Career Working in Theatres
Before she married the actor, Anna-Louise Plowman had her own theatre company but later had to focus on a British television series she was to feature in. She has worked in theatre, film, and television in London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Dublin, Sydney, and Paris.
She is known for starring in the TV series Black Sails (2000-2004) and also Doctor Who (2005). In 2004, she featured in a mini-series I Knew He Was Right, and in 2005, she was in the TV Film Days of Darkness. She also played the role of Helen Marsden in an episode of Marple in 2006.
