1. How Sick Puppies Was Formed
Sick Puppies was formed by Emma Anzai and Shimon Moore. Shimon was the lead guitarist and also a singer in the band. They formed the band in their high school’s music room after a situation of double-booking made them collide.
This collision about who would use the room for their practice soon turned into a friendship and bond over the Australian band, Silverchair. Realizing they share similar tastes in music and bands, they started meeting up to play some of their favorite songs. This new bond led them to start writing their own songs and added another member to their group.
This bond and shared passion happened in 1997 and it was at this point that the trio became the band ‘Sick Puppies’.
2. There Are Two Stories Behind The Name Of The Band
There are two different versions of the story of how the name of the band came to be. The first story by Shimon Moore states that he came up the name by himself while they were thinking up names to go with. According to his version, he stumbled on his dad reading a book titled ‘Sick Puppies’ written by Carl Hiaasen and decide to adopt the name.
The second version of the story says that the band was rehearsing in their garage when a neighbor’s puppy entered and vomited on the band’s equipment. As a result of this, one of the band’s earliest fans commented by saying ‘That’s one sick puppy’ and that stuck giving birth to the name of the band.
3. Emma Anzai Was Initially A Guitar Player
During the early days of the group-turned-band, Emma was a guitar player. However, with the introduction of Chris Mileski who joined the band as a drummer, Emma then moved to bass.
4. She Had To Work An Odd Job To Finance Their Debut EP
Sick Puppies’ debut EP titled ‘Dogs Breakfast’ carries quite a story with it. While trying to release the EP, Emma and Shimon had to work jobs in order to raise money for its release.
While Shimon took up a job as a sandwich board holder in Pitt Street, Sydney, Emma worked as a telemarketer. The duo, with the help of Shimon’s dad who was a musician and producer eventually raised the money and released the EP.
5. Is Emma Anzai Married?
43 year old Emma Anzai is quite private and loves to keep her life that way. In her over two decades of being in the spotlight, she has not been linked to any romance. No report carries a wedding nor relationship with Emma and we don’t know if she is even in any relationship.

6. The Bands Who Influenced Her
As already guessed, Emma was highly influenced by the band Silverchair. This was one of the few Australian bands she was exposed to at the time. She also loved a small band called Tree Trunk as they inspired her to become a bassist.
7. She Is Presently The Only Original Member Of The Band
With the announcement of Shimon Moore’s exit from the band, Emma became the last and only original member. However, this position did not come without controversies as there are two sides to Moore’s departure.
