In 1995, the Outlaws faced tragedies. Two of the band’s original lineup died. Guitarist Billy Hones committed suicide. Bassist Frank O’Keefe died a few weeks later. Frank died of a drug overdose.
When the band reunited in April 2005 as the Outlaws, they replaced the two dead members.

How Did Hughie Thomasson Die?
Hughie Thomasson died of a heart attack on September 7, 2007, in Brooksville, Florida.
His death was a blow to the band, it happened a night after a show in Tropicana, Nevada.
He died in his sleep and in his home.
At the time of his death, the band was planning to release its Once An Outlaw album. The album was not released to date. Hughie was 55 at the time of his death.
