Vickie Winans married her first husband, late bishop Ronald E. Brown of Faith Tabernacle Deliverance Temple in Orangeburg, South Carolina after she finished high school. The union was blessed with a son, Mario Mendell Brown who is better known as Mario Winans.
After Winans separated from the Bishop she married Marvin Winans in June 1978. Her husband Marvin was part of the gospel group The Winans. They also had two sons Marvin Jr. (coconut) and Josiah Winans. The marriage lasted for 16 years before shattering. The marriage ended in divorce in 1995.

In 2003, Vickie Winans met and married a businessman. Joe McLemore. The marriage only lasted for a couple of years before she filed for a divorce. He later died in 2018.

Shortly after she met the Winans family, she was asked to join the Winans Part II, singing group. The other members of the group were BeBe, CeCe, and Daniel Winans all siblings of her husband then.
Her husband later secured her a recording contract after they made a huge success on their record label, Light Records. She released her solo album be encouraged in 1987 and it was a major hit.
Winans released a follow-up album but it wasn’t well-received like the first one. The Winans later left the light records to Quincy Jones’s Qwest Records.

Vickie Winans revealed in an interview that she lost her only daughter who was born prematurely an hour after birth. She had the baby after Marvin Winan jr. the baby came in the fifth month and weighed only one pound. The baby is not the only loved one the gospel singer has lost. She also lost her mother, Evangelist Mattie Bowman on December 12, 2006.

She began her weight loss journey after she made a joke about her weight on stage. She spoke about losing weight and hosting the Stellar Awards. The awards producer Don Jackson later called her to host the awards which imply she had to work on her weight.
Winans lost 35 pounds three months to the show. She was asked to host again the following year and she focused on the weight loss journey afterward.
