Hutton began his career working for Disney and later for the Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Company. He wrote songs for them and did voice-overs for quite a number of cartoons for the two companies in the ’60s.

Before he co-founded the Three Dog Night, he had started his solo career already. He released some singles in the mid-‘60s under the Hanna-Barbera and MGM labels. Even though the other songs were not well received, Roses and Rainbows made a small hit in Southern California.
3. Danny Hutton initiated the idea of a three-vocalist group
In 1967, Hutton brought the idea of forming a three-man vocalist group. Together with Cory Wells, they invited their mutual friend Chuck Negron to join the band.
The lineup later changed as they added Jimmy Greenspoon (keyboards), Joe Schermie (bass), Michael Allsup (guitar), and Floyd Sneed (drums).

4. His girlfriend suggested the name of the band
Danny Hutton revealed during an interview that the band’s manager had told them to come up with a name for the band. He added that his girlfriend at that time June Fairchild suggested the name after reading a magazine article about aboriginal Australians.
The band was first known as Redwood.
