He is currently 82 years old.
While growing up, he showed an interest in singing and basketball. He developed the talents to sing at various doo-woop groups, and for basketball at Schoolyard pickup games and the William Howard Taft High School.
Because of his skill and talent in basketball, Allan Hancock College drafted him in Santa Maria and later California State University to play basketball.

When his parents divorced, his mother Elizabeth took him and his twin sister to an orphanage. However, after staying there for two years, she came back and picked them up.
